TMJ (Jaw) Treatment
Targeted remedial treatment for jaw pain, clenching and tension headaches, provided within a remedial appointment.
TMJ treatment is provided within a remedial or myotherapy appointment, by therapists trained in it. It is not a separate booking. When booking, choose a remedial massage or myotherapy appointment and let us know you are coming in for TMJ (jaw) treatment, so we can match you with the right therapist.
What Is TMJ Treatment?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge of your jaw, and it works harder than almost any joint in the body. Every time you talk, chew, yawn or clench, the muscles around it fire. When those muscles are overloaded by grinding, clenching, stress or poor posture, the whole system tightens up, and the pain rarely stays put. It refers into the head, the ears, the face, the neck and the shoulders.
TMJ treatment targets the muscles that drive the joint, using precise remedial techniques and, where appropriate and only with your consent, gentle intra-oral (inside the mouth) release. The aim is simple. Take the load off the joint, settle the muscles pulling it out of balance, and give you back a jaw that moves freely and comfortably.
Who It Helps
If your jaw has quietly become the place you carry your day, this is for you. TMJ treatment helps people living with:
- Waking with a tight, aching or tired jaw
- A jaw that clicks, catches or locks when you open wide
- Grinding or clenching, often in your sleep or under stress
- Tension headaches, or pain behind the eyes and around the temples
- Earache, ringing or a feeling of fullness with no infection
- Pain or fatigue when chewing
- Facial, neck and shoulder tension that never fully lets go
Left alone, these patterns feed each other. Treatment breaks the cycle, easing the muscles, calming the referred pain and giving the joint room to settle.
What To Expect
Your therapist assesses your jaw, neck and posture, then works to release the muscles that control the jaw, both externally and, with your consent, intra-orally. You will usually leave with simple exercises to continue at home, so the relief holds between visits.
Booking TMJ Treatment
Because only some of our therapists are trained in TMJ work, please book a remedial massage or myotherapy appointment and tell reception you would like TMJ treatment, so we can match you with a suitable therapist. For pricing, see our pricing page.
