What to Expect at Your First Massage

What to Expect at Your First Massage

If you have never had a remedial massage before, knowing what happens takes the guesswork out of it. Here is how your first appointment runs, start to finish.

Your appointment, step by step

  1. You will be greeted by one of our reception team when you arrive.
  2. You will be asked to complete a short new client form. It takes a couple of minutes and helps us understand your priorities, preferences and injury history before we begin.
  3. Your therapist will introduce themselves, show you through the clinic and settle you into a private treatment room.
  4. They will carry out a short assessment to understand your history and your current range of motion, then agree with you which areas take priority in today's treatment.
  5. Your therapist will step out of the room so you can undress to your comfort level. You will be given a towel, and you stay covered throughout apart from the area being worked on.
  6. Once they return, hands-on treatment begins. Your therapist will talk you through what they are finding, how they plan to help, and what you can do to help yourself.
  7. Towards the end of the treatment they will discuss the progress made. Depending on what your body needs, they may suggest a treatment plan. That might be weekly, monthly or less often.
  8. You will be encouraged to keep your water up. If this is your first remedial massage, it is worth reading what to expect afterwards.

You stay in control the whole time. Pressure, areas worked and how much you undress are all your call. Tell your therapist at any point if something does not feel right, and they will adjust.

What to bring
