Pilates as a method of physical exercise started over 80 years ago with Joseph Pilates. He created a program that focused on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and aligned with the intention of spinal health and posture awareness originally.

 

The Pilates method of exercise works to develop muscle tone and improve alignment throughout the body enabling better global and fine movement, stability, balance, control, mobility all with the intention of more efficient function.

 

Pilates is accessible to basically anyone and everyone who keen and willing to enhance the way their body moves and feels! There are endless benefits to the inclusion of Pilates, including:

  • Improved Body awareness/Posture/proprioception
  • Improving circulation
  • Improved balance and coordination
  • Restoration/improved ability to utilise the deep core/pelvic floor and spinal stabiliser musculature
  • Improved muscle specific strength/activation

Studio Pilates Sessions

Private Sessions

Individual Pilates can be an excellent option when wanting to focus on specific goals whether that be postural concerns, the result of an injury, pre/post-natal, or just prefer a more personalised approach. Our private classes are also a fantastic way to become more familiar with the exercises if you are new to Pilates. We utilise the classical mat repertoire as well as the reformer, wunda chair, and small props in designing a program specific to your goals. 

 

Duo Sessions

Similarly structured to the private Pilates but you can bring a friend and share the hour.

Group Mat Classes

Our mat classes will focus on a small group environment (max of 5ppl) with everyone in class working through a similar program utilising mat based exercises as well as small equipment. The program will be designed to work within the scope of Pilates principles with appropriate modifications provided for individuals to enable participation within the class program. Each session will run for 50mins and no initial consultation is required. Generally these classes will not be suitable for individuals who have specific concerns or injuries that require more specific care and attention.

What to wear?

We advise you wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely. Pilates emphasises correct form and alignment and therefore it is ideal for your clothing to be fitted enough to allow your instructor to better observe your form during the movements. For both hygiene and ease of movement, we also recommend that you wear socks! You may also want to bring you own towel and a water bottle.
